Starting a new blog is never easy. You always end up being the new kid on the block and no one knows exactly what to make of you. All the bigger, older kids in the neighborhood ignore you. You just generally feel unloved. It’s not easy.
The problem is I have a passion for this. I feel so strongly that this form of citizen journalism or blogging or online journaling or mutual masturbation or whatever you want to call it is a powerful connection. It gives rise to the voice of the people. You don’t have to have gone to Harvard to have a blog. You don’t have to have power or influence. There are millions of like-minded people out there, waiting, wanting to connect to something, anything tangible. Waiting for an answer. Just wondering how things suddenly stop making sense.
I’m by no means saying I have the answer, but I am saying that what we are trying to accomplish at blogNYC is to give that voice a platform to be heard. That’s not to say that everything we publish here is deadly serious, or even political. Living, and breathing and being a generally happy person requires more than constant discourse. We try to bring humor, levity and sarcasm to a world that, to many sane people, suddenly doesn’t make much sense.
So we know there are a million other blogs out there, we know there’s not enough time in the day to read them all, but we will try to give you a unique honest perspective that you may not see anywhere else. If you can find it in your heart to give us a chance, we’ll try not to let you down. And we promise that if we reach our goal of 300,000 unique visits by January 1st, we will buy 1,000 hotdogs and have the biggest damn bbq you’ve seen in Prospect Park (unless of course you’ve seen a bbq with more than 1,000 hotdogs, then maybe the second biggest).

Want a neat little picture by your comments? Get one here.Of course, we’re not going to have the bbq in the middle of January, but if we do reach our goal, we will plan the bbq for a the first, nice weekend in spring.

I have hopes here, too: I’m a regular reader of a blog devoted to Prospect Height, dailyheights.com, and I believe in the idea.
Only, you know, you were linked by Atrios this week. Not a bad debut!

I’ll destroy dailyheights.com!
Just kidding. Yeah, let’s hope we can keep the momentum rolling. So far we’ve been lucky with really good submissions.
That’s sort of my goal, to have well researched, articulate articles, sandwiched in between my sarcastic ramblings.
