I was walking by the Atlantic rail yards today and happened to see Fernando Ferrer holding a press conference. I missed most of it but I think the jist of it was that he’s against the Nets Arena, while Bloomberg is for it. Ferrer is against using taxpayer money anyway.
There were protesters there, apparently union guys who want the arena to come for the jobs it will provide. There were a lot more of them than there were Ferrer supporters.
At first I was a little confused by the protesters. They started with, “what do we want?” Then they were like, “jobs!”. I was all about it, I’m like yeah, everybody wants a job, stop bogarting the jobs Ferrer. Then they were like, “housing!”. I was all like, hells yeah, we all need a place to stay, give me some housing motherfucker. Then they were all like, “hoops!”. I was like huh? I thought they wanted a pick-up game or something. I was like, can’t we just go to the park and play some half-court games? I don’t think we should really mix that in with the jobs and housing. Then I realized, they were talking about the Nets.
