New Ford Escape hybrid taxis have started rolling out on the streets of NYC. While they may look like traditional taxis on the outside, down below they’re hiding a fully functional 2.3L I4 engine. Sure, it may seem harmless at first but trust me, you always want to find out ahead of time what’s “under the hood”, if you get our drift.

You go out, have a few drinks, maybe a few too many. Then you find yourself alone and needing a a ride. You’ve had a few, you’re feeling good and suddenly this hot looking taxi appears in front of you. You’re drunk, the taxi looks good and you figure what the hell. You climb in and it’s not until you’re halfway home before you figure out it’s a hybrid. By then, what are you going to do? I mean you might as well take it all the way and just hope you’re drunk enough to forget about it in the morning.

While there are only about six of the cabs on the road now, cabbies are happy with them because they get about twice as many MPG’s as regular cabs. Cabbies are the ones responsible for gassing up the cabs so while they’re happy with the decision, cab owners may not be so gung-ho about the idea.

Whether the vehicles proliferate, however, may depend most on whether
owners of the city’s cab fleets find a long-run financial benefit to
justify their extra cost.

Apparently, helping to insure that their grandchildren can still breath isn’t incentive enough. Hopefully, lawmakers won’t leave the decision in the hands of the cab owners. It should be mandatory that by 2010, every cab in NYC and every other major city is a hybrid car.

Dammit people haven’t any of you seen ‘The Day After Tomorrow’? The Statue of Liberty had snow up to her ass!
