You’d think that someone who spends $10,000,000 on mitzvahpalooza, would be a shrewed businessman as well.  Crookish is more like it.

Here’s the long and short of it.

1. David Brook’s company which makes bulletproof vests, signed a $100 million contract with the Defense Dept. to make bulletproof vests for Iraq.  A contract which Brooks said at the time could eventually be worth as much as $500 million (did you hear that investors?) (People like this used to be called war profiteers, now they’re just called Bush’s buddies)

2. Five months later the Marine Corps recalled 5,277 combat vests made by a
DHB subsidiary issued to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan because of
concerns that they failed a test to determine whether they could stop a
bullet.  You see, the most important function of a bulletproof vest is the actual ability to stop a bullet.  Otherwise, it’s just a vest.

3. Coincidentally, Brooks and the insiders at his company sold off about
$200 million worth of DHB stock between Nov. 29 and Dec. 29, 2004.
Brooks, according to publicly available filings, sold about $186
million himself.  Sounds like someone knew they were making a shitty product that was costing American soldiers their lives and wanted out quick.

4. Brooks uses some of his $186 million windfall from war profiteering and throws a $10 million bat mitzvah for his daughter while wearing a black leather suit and at one point changing into a magenta suede biker outfit covered with chains.  I really hope the SEC and the fashion police are cooperating with each other on this case.

I think I’ve figured it out.  Average poor people have a problem.  It’s not that they’re not hard working enough, or motivated enough, it’s just that they lack the complete absence of a soul it takes to become a multi-millionaire corporate whore.  Learn how to kill yourself from the inside out, and reap the financial rewards.
