Move over Billy Crystal, Chris Rock and David Letterman. There’s a new Oscar host in town, John Stewart. While we’re happy to see Stewart pocket a wad of cash from his new gig, we have to admit there are mixed feelings about seeing him host the Oscars. We watched years ago as Letterman stumbled, and most recently as Chris Rock (who we think is one of the best stand-ups working today) dug their way into the Hollywood whoredom and tried and make their own brand of funny, funny for the tepid and vanilla Oscar crowd.
This does of course mean we’ll actually be watching the Oscars this year if for no other reason than to hear Stewart’s take on ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and the Christian right. Rumor has it that not only will Stewart be hosting the Oscars, he’ll be taking along most of his ‘Daily Show’ writers to help him out. This year, the awards show my actually be more entertaining than most of the films that will likely be nominated.
