Tom Cruise has been voted the top moneymaking star of 2005 by the Quigley poll. The poll, conducted every year since 1932, asks motion picture exhibitors to vote
for the 10 stars who generated the most box-office revenue for their
theaters.
Cruise, pictured left standing in front of a six foot tall screen likeness of himself, was proud of his award saying, "this is for all the little people everywhere who struggle so hard to reach their goals, or just to reach things in general."
Tom, who has a penchant for leather jackets, sunglasses and his trademark smirk insists his statuesque height of 4′6" has nothing to do with his success.
Insiders claim the only reason he was ever cast in ‘Top Gun’ was because he was on the set for three weeks before anyone even noticed him.
"We thought he was somebody’s kid running around in a pilot’s suit, it was cute, so we filmed it. After a few weeks we realized it was this actor guy and we already had all this film so we just gave him the part," said director Tony Scott.
