Here’s a tip, if you work for the city, and your boss, namely the Mayor is going to be visiting your office, try to avoid playing solitaire on your computer. A city employee for 6 years was fired without warning and without severance pay when Bloomberg, who was in Albany for Gov. Pataki’s State of the State speech on Jan. 4th walked by and caught the man playing solitaire on his office computer. Although it’s not really clear why it took a month for the man to be fired, since Bloomberg saw him on Jan. 4th and he wasn’t fired until last Tuesday.
"The workplace is not an appropriate place for
games," Bloomberg told reporters Thursday when asked about firing a
clerical worker in the city’s lobbying office in Albany."I expect all city workers, including myself, to work hard."
Is there anyone who doesn’t play solitaire on their work computer? That has to be a pretty hard thing to bring up at your next job interview. Admitting you got fired by the Mayor of NYC for playing solitaire on your computer while he was visiting your office.
I don’t think the guy should have necessarily been fired for playing solitaire, but he probably should have been fired for being dumb enough to play it while Bloomberg was touring the office.
