So a few weeks ago I wrote an editorial piece about a new restaurant in Park Slope called the Burrito Bar on the corner of Flatbush Ave and Prospect Pl.  While I did say that I admired the digs and the food truly is excellent, and trust me I love Mexican food, I didn’t have a lot of good things to say about some other aspects of the restaurant.  Really, aspects that aren’t important at all to anyone’s personal dining experience.

While all of what I wrote was from excellent sources, and none of it was made up, my reasons for writing it may have been a little skewed.  I have always tried to write to inform and to share what I believe to be ideals and information that are important to me.  I rarely let personal animosity or "feelings" interfere with "objective" writing.

In my editorial I did not state that I had a personal relationship
with the owner (no not in that way sickos), but I did, perhaps
purposely, leave out the fact that there was the distinct possibility I
would not have been writing that piece had it not been for, what I
believed to be, a personal slight or misunderstanding between the owner
and myself.

While I do believe that certain business practices and work
environments are unacceptable and should be called out, I don’t
necessarily believe that is precisely what took place in this situation.

I grew up with parents who were small business owners, in the
restaurant business in fact, and I believe whole heartedly that small
businesses should be supported.  I personally try to support and
patronize small businesses, exclusively if possible.

I have rarely, if ever, felt the need to retract an editorial that I
have written, but I am doing it today.  I realize that I allowed
personal emotion to stand in the way of an objective viewpoint.  There
are many things that deserve to be called out and made public, but in
my honest opinion, the choice I made on that particular article wasn’t
one of them.  From a guest’s standpoint, the food, the environment and
the staff at the Burrito Bar in Park Slope are all definitely worth
paying a visit to.   Your experience should be your own, based on your
dining experience, not on my personal experience.

The food is honestly pretty damn good Mexican food.  Everyone there busts their ass to give you the best dining
experience possible.  I’m sorry that I allowed my personal feelings on
a very specific matter to interfere with the much larger picture.
Those of you that have been reading me for a while know that I speak
with passion and conviction and rarely back down from my beliefs.  I am
not backing down now, I am correcting what I believe was an error in
judgment on my behalf.

I have had personal conversations with the owner of the Burrito Bar since my original post and honestly believe that his intentions are good.  The previous post is unimportant and I have made the choice to
delete it from our archives.  I apologize to our readers and hope that
this retraction will show my intention to try and be more fair and
unbiased when writing personal editorials.

Didn’t you already print this–or is it a retraction of the retraction?

I did print it, then unprinted it to think about it. It was only up for an hour or so. I wanted some more time to think about it. So that’s why it’s back up now.

I do have to commend you for realizing the err of you ways, but boy I would love to know what this guy did to piss you off in the first place!
At any rate, your retraction sounded sanctimonious so I am not sure what I think about you any more…perhaps you have no backbone, perhaps you are a bullshit artist that is plauged with jewish guilt…I don’t know anymore

It wasn’t meant to sound sanctimonious. It was meant as an honest retraction. Still, in an attempt to console my ego, I hope you decide to still like me. I’m really not a bullshit artist.

I could have made the decision to just delete the original post, instead I tried to make amends. In retrospect, I wish I had never done the original post to warrant the second post in the first place.

But, like they say, you live and you learn.
