So we’re still sort of in limbo.  We are having problems finding a reliable, affordable hosting company that can provide the amount of bandwidth we need.  Whatever you do, don’t ever, ever, ever, try and set up Movable Type on a Godaddy server, they might have great plans, but their issues with Movable Type are tremendous.

  1. Thanks for the heads up. It can be such a pain to set up MT. I was thinking of using godaddy, and am glad I passed! I got my hosting recommendations from Learning Movable Type and picked Hosting Matters. I haven’t had to speak with a human as their control panel and setup were easy, and I had almost no trouble getting MT running. I am also in no way affiliated with LMT or HM - just had a good experience.

Yeah, it sucks because Godaddy actually has some really good deals on hosting. They’re just not compatible at all with MT.

Even after I finally got installed after three days (and I’ve installed MT with no problems dozens of times) I would start getting random error messages and the backend was so f’ing slow I thought I was going to lose my mind.

I really like godaddy, I just wish they would fix whatever the problem is with MT. If you go on MT’s support site and search for godaddy, you’ll get a ton of hits that pretty much all end up saying, stay the fuck away from godaddy.

  3. That sucks. I wonder what their problem is if they can’t run MT.

I’m sorry that happened. It must be a pain to find hosting when you need a lot of bandwidth. Maybe you could use a separate image host to save some money. I have no idea, though, because my site is new and I don’t have that problem.

Humm, I could’ve (still can) point you to a friend of mine in Atlanta that runs a small ISP specializing in high bandwith sites. He could do a dedicated server with unmetered bandwith for around $80 (or so). If I’m not mistaken, his servers are colocated in the same building as Serverbeach and Internap.

by dedicated server, I mean you have full root/admin access. You can choose Winodws or Linux for your OS.
