I have to say, as much shit as I talked leading up to the long awaited Sopranos season 6, after 21 long months without a new episode, it may have been worth the wait. Junior, riddled with alzheimer’s, mistakes Tony for Pussy (not Big Pussy) and shoots him in the gut. The episode ends with Tony barely making it to the phone to call 911 before passing out, while a disorientated Junior hides in a closet upstairs.
There were definitely some surprises, some new characters appeared, then promptly disappeared. I know that Pontecorvo hung himself in part because his dreams of paradise in Florida were blown not only by Tony, but by the feds as well. All I can say is that I grew up in Ft. Myers (the place Eugene Pontecorvo wanted to move) and trust me, the guy’s better off having hung himself.
The show even wrote in Vito Spatafore’s 200 pound weight loss during the last 21 months. Spatafore, played by Joseph Gannascoli, who owns the restaurant 101 in Bay Ridge, dropped 200 lbs and even appeared on VH1’s ‘Celebrity Fit Club’ during his time off from ‘The Sopranos’.
All in all, I’d have to say the wait was worth it, I think this is going to be a great season for the Sopranos. They even started off the episode with a little gratuitous scene of Meadow, played by Jamie-Lynn Sigler, doing an erotic dance for her fiancee.
