The murder case against Darryl Littlejohn of Imette St. Guillen could reach the Brooklyn Grand Jury as early as today. Sunday, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly held a press conference announcing that they had DNA blood evidence linking Littlejohn to the ties that were used to bind St. Guillen’s hands.

While this story has made national headlines, and I think we all know why(te), Mayor Bloomberg took an opportunity to give the media a little smack on the hand for it’s voracious handling of the St. Guillen murder.

Bloomberg also tried to deflect attention from the case, reminding the public that other cases, such as the murder of two Chinese immigrant women in Brooklyn, are unsolved.

“Perhaps the press should focus on some of those cases,” Bloomberg said. “I mean, crime is down, but this is not a perfect society, and we do have 500 murders a year, and every one of them is a human being.”

You know, the fact is, Bloomberg is a business man and he knows that this kind of press isn’t good for business. But the fact that a politician said it at all should be lauded in its own right. I mean, how many of you even knew about the two Chinese immigrant women whose murders were unsolved? Exactly. Nothing sells news like missing white women.
