So, possibly for the first time ever, Britney Spears is being taken seriously. Only probably not in a way you want to be taken seriously if you’re Britney Spears. Supposedly she’s the subject of a sculpture entitled Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston.

I say “supposedly” because, to me at least, the face in the sculpture doesn’t look anything like Britney. We think it’s a big fat publicity stunt by the artist to grab some headlines for his odd sculpture. The artist, Daniel Edwards says the sculpture is “really a sincere tribute to giving birth” and that he “doesn’t mean “pro-life” in the political sense”.

The sculpture shows Britney naked, on her hands and knees giving birth to Sean Preston, down to the detail of SP’s head crowning. First of all, since when do women give birth on their hands and knees? Second of all, eww. I mean sure the miracle of life is beautiful and all, but really only if it’s your own kid. I don’t really need to see Britney in the act of giving birth captured in sculpture.

I know what you’re thinking. One, is this serious? Well, here’s how the museum describes the piece that will be on display April 7-23, “pregnant Spears’ “lactiferous breasts,” “protruding naval,” “water retentive hands,” and “widened hips for birthing”. Second, where on earth would I see this thing? Why Williamsburg of course.
