In what may very well be a followup to BlogNYC’s exclusive story earlier this week, the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute found that 77% of voters support a proposal that would allow illegal immigrants to get permanent residence after six years of living and working in the U.S.
These voters also favor passing a temporary work visa program that would let immigrants come and go while working legally in the U.S. for a limited amount of years.
“The city of immigrants is sympathetic to immigrants, even illegal immigrants,” said Maurice Carroll, the institute’s director.
But 17% of voters in the poll came out in support of legislation that would make illegal immigration a crime.
These voters said they do not want to allow anyone who entered the country illegally to work or stay in the U.S., under any circumstances.
In all fairness, the poll did have an error margin of +/- 17% racist assholes.

Are you kidding? Saying “hey lets follow the law” is suddenly racist, and saying “hey lets exploit cheap labor for all it’s worth” is humanitarian?
