We can only hope that this is something that stays in effect forever.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the six-month traffic plan today. It starts on Monday, June 5, and will stay in effect through mid-November.
Vehicles will no longer be allowed to use Central Park’s East Drive north of 72nd Street in the morning or the West Drive in the afternoon. In Prospect Park, West Drive will be off-limits to cars in the morning.
Currently there are no restrictions on traffic at either of the parks. How great would it be to see Bloomberg treat driving like he’s treated smoking in the city. Would anyone be adverse to an alternate day ban on driving? Say two days a week people with even numbered addresses can’t drive to work, they have to either ride with someone with an odd numbered address or take mass transit. Then two days a week odd numbered addresses have to do the same.
