Howard’s exit from analog radio to satellite radio has left a gaping void in the morning drive, which CBS found out was a tough one to fill. After the David Lee Roth fiasco, which ended with him getting the can (finally), CBS quickly turned back to Opie and Anthony to try and fill the void left by Stern. CBS Radio and XM Satellite radio signed an unprecedented deal that allowed Opie and Anthony to be simulcast on analog and satellite radio.
Well, it seems like while Howard may have been content to stand back and watch David Lee Roth bury himself, CBS’ new deal with O&A has given him an idea.
Shock jock HOWARD STERN yesterday told listeners on his Sirius Satellite Radio show he has been offered a “major deal” to return to analogue radio. Stern didn’t disclose which network has made the offer, but claimed he would still be able to present his satellite show. He said, “I got offered a major deal to go back to terrestrial and stay on satellite at the same time.”
If it is what Howard says it is, then this should definitely clear the way for his return. He gets his huge deal from Sirius, his huge deal to return to analog radio, and he still gets to stick to CBS. Sounds like Howard made one of the best choices of his career by moving to satellite radio.
One has to wonder though, what the new analog station will do about Howard’s new “uncensored” format. I’m sure a lot of the people that followed Howard to Sirius are pleased with Howard doing whatever the hell he pleases without worry from the FCC.
