The number of teachers in NYC being forced to take psych exams has jumped by more than 65% since 2003. Union reps for the teachers say that superiors are using the test as a form of harrassment, and urging teachers in Queens not to take the test without a union rep present.
Since 2003, superintendents have ordered 510 evaluations of employees. Of those, 297 found the subject fit, 132 were found unfit and another 82 educators either resigned or retired before their results were logged.
BlogNYC considers itself a friend of NYC teachers. We know NYC teachers. We love NYC teachers. NYC teachers do not need some sort of new agey psych exam. It’s been our experience that if an NYC teacher can make it through to Friday, and then with at least 7 or 8 other teachers in tow, can find the nearest bar that serves either margaritas or some sort of specialty martini, and can drink 8 or 9 of those in about 4 or 5 hours, said teachers are perfectly fine.
