Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff found out quickly that Peter Jennings left some mighty big shoes to fill. Less than six months after taking over World News Tonight in an experiment with joint anchors, Vargas and Woodruff are being pushed to the side to make room for Charles Gibson from Good Morning America to take over the sole anchoring position.
At least NBC started grooming Brian Williams early on to take over for Tom Brokaw. It seems like ABC and CBS thought that Jennings and Rather were going to be there forever. Personally, I’d rather jab myself repeatedly with a dull screwdriver than watch Katie Couric as an evening news anchor.
