If you thought that Stomp couldn’t get any more annoying, think again. And if you thought advertisements couldn’t get any more annoying you were right, but apparently they can get more prolific. Like going to see live theater as an escape from the modern world? Soon, the members of Stomp will be banging out their tunes with McDonald’s cups while wearing Verizon Wireless t-shirts.
7:55 p.m. Just before the curtain goes up and…a live advertisement begins, hailing the virtues of visiting London and how wonderful and special it is there. At the end of the commercial a voice says, “”Whatever you like doing, you’ll love doing it in London.”
You know what I like doing? Going to the theater without having to worry about seeing fucking live advertisement. Can I do that in London, because thanks to Stomp, I can’t do it in NYC now.
Why live advertisement? Because you can’t TiVo theater. “They’re a captive audience,” Mr. Kelling (Visit London’s communications director) said. “They can’t switch channels or change over or walk out once the thing is started.”
But we can not go to your crappy show.
