In today’s “everybody is great” society, even fifth graders believe that what they “feel” matters. Here’s lesson number one kid, your feelings don’t matter to anyone but those close to you. You’ll learn the second lesson at summer school.

Because they had failed state tests and are headed for summer school, they would have to sit out graduation.
First of all, this whole concept of “graduating” fifth grade blows my mind. Was I the only person who got out of fifth grade, took the summer off, and then went to sixth grade? But now, you graduate from 5th grade, 8th grade and 12th grade. Is this some sort of new phenomenon to try and make the kids feel good about themselves?

Well kid, I want to collect a big fat paycheck every week without having to work for it. But like my dad used to tell me, “wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one gets full quicker”. Consider yourself lucky, you just learned an important life lesson long before most of your peers. Good luck with summer school though. I had to go to summer school once, other than taking up your time it’s pretty much like the easiest school in the world, because if it’s possible, the teachers want to be there even less than you do.
