The Rent Guidelines Board voted 5-4 last night to raise NYC’s rent regulated apartments as much as 4.25% for one year leases and 7.25% for two year leases. The vote was delayed for more than an hour by protesters drums, pots and pans and whistles to try their best to disrupt the vote, to no avail.
This article was filed under the “New York” section in AP. Apparently they don’t have a “people who don’t have rent stabilized apartments who don’t give a shit that you’re rent may go up to a whopping $600 a month” section.

Want a neat little picture by your comments? Get one here.how do you figure $600 a month at the highest rate of an apartment that meets rent laws is $2000 if you renew at one year its at an raise of 90$ and if the same apartment was renewed for two years it would be $145… The people who are going to get screwed the most is the ones living in non rent-lawed apts cause landlords will say Hey a rent-law apt is 4.5-7.25 so someone that isnt under the law might see 14.5-21.75% increase!!!

I was making up a ridiculously low number, which I know people have paid for their own apartment, to emphasize that most people in NYC pay a hell of a lot more than that in rent.
