11DOT.jpg In other news, there is a Director of the New York City Department of Transportation’s Bicycle Program. Who knew? That’s probably one of the reasons why Andrew Vesselenovitch, the former director of the bicycle program resigned in disgust.

“I waited for a long time for the direction from the commissioner’s office to change, or for the commissioner to be changed,” Andrew Vesselenovitch e-mailed to about twenty agency colleagues and a handful outsiders on Friday, his last day at the agency. “I hope that you won’t have to wait much longer.”

Bicycling in NYC can be downright dangerous and to have someone that is committed to improving alternate transportation forced out because of a backwards minded traffic commissioner is a pretty sad state of affairs.
