Advertisers are freaking out about the fact that you now don’t have to be subjected to their ads while watching TV and in an attempt to double their dollars TiVo is doing everything they can to help them.
TiVo is starting a new service, aimed at advertisers, that will sell them information on your TV watching preferences and how often you fast forward through commercials.
The service is based on an analysis of the second-by-second viewing patterns of a nightly sample of 20,000 TiVo users, whose recorders report back to TiVo on what was watched and when.
Seriously, fuck TiVo. Get yourself a plain DVR, or make your own with an extra PC you have lying around and do yourself a favor, don’t sell your info to advertisers.

Want a neat little picture by your comments? Get one here.I don’t appreciate this news. I surely did not appreciate it when during the custody portion of my divorce, my ex husband introduced receipts for my porn purchases. He was able to tell the judge that I watched the porn in the middle of the morning when the kids were home and in what bedroom I watched the porn. It is too much. It is too scary. I demand that this be stopped. Immediately and permanently. This is an invasion of the gravest kind. We must all unite together to stop this.

They’re not selling your personal info to advertisers, they’re selling your viewing habits. It’s anonymous so who cares? Watching targeted, relevant advertising is much more appealing than random garbage.
If it allows a great service like TiVo stay in business than I’m all forward. Cable companies DVR’s are terrible compared to TiVo, and I’m sure they’ll do the same thing TiVo’s as soon as they can.
Plus you’re viewing habits have always been tracked, how do you think TiVo knows what the most watched/recorded shows were? When Janet Jackson’s boob slipped out during the Super Bowl, they were able to show what percentage of people rewound the slip to watch it again.
And Marge, if you’re so concerned about privacy why are discussing your porn viewing habits on the Internet while using what appears to be your real name?
