It’s commonly known as the red-headed step-child of the MTA. The G train. The only train that doesn’t pass through Manhattan. On other occasions it’s been said that the G train is only slightly more convenient than dragging yourself, using only your hands, to where ever your final destination is.
Possibly the most backward train ever, the G only runs its full route after sunset and on weekends. And in a mind numbing display of incompetence, the last stop on the G is Smith-9th Streets in Red Hook. It then proceeds to go five more stops to Church Ave. to turn around. It’s like the worst thought out subway line on the planet.
Most likely because all of those things, and many more, when the MTA announced that it would be making service cuts in 2007, many began to worry that we may be seeing the last of the G. Many others however are completely unable to care less whether or not the MTA axes the G train.
There is however some concern that without a G train, the Greenpoint/Red Hook gentrification meetings may be forced to come to an end. Only time will tell.

i never understood why the G train didn’t go to church ave… especially since church ave was my stop. the G train is easily the worst maintained train in the system and i pity anyone who is dependent on it to get around.
