Thousands of people were trapped underground for over an hour yesterday as a fire on the tracks halted service on the B, D, F, V and Q lines.

The fire department said that 3,000 - 4,000 people on the B line were evacuated from trains that came off of the Manhattan Bridge. 12 people and 3 firefighters suffered minor injuries including smoke inhalation.

The interuption was caused by a piece of wood that caught fire next to the third-rail although the MTA is not saying what might have initially caused the fire.

Service is not expected to effected this morning.
