On Sunday night’s Emmy Awards show NBC aired a pre-recorded bit that showed host Conan O’Brien in an airplane crash.
While the skit was pretty funny, the timing was unfortunate due to the fact that 49 people had died in a plane crash in Kentucky earlier that afternoon.
“In no way would we ever want to make light of this terrible tragedy,” the spokeswoman said in the statement. “The filmed opening during the Emmy telecast was meant to spoof some of television’s most well-known scenes. The timing was unfortunate, and we regret any unintentional pain it may have caused.”
It was a coincidence people. It’s not like they were spoofing the actual plan crash. I remember when my dad died, all of my family was over and everyone was down so I had the brilliant idea to rent Tommy Boy, a lighthearted comedy to take everyone’s mind off it for a while. It worked great until it got to the part in the movie where his fucking dad died. Talk about awkward.
