Freaking laser beams.
The MTA is quietly testing a laser-based security system for its tunnels, according to a transit document obtained by the Daily News.
The high-tech system uses lasers to detect intruders.
One of the new devices is already in place at an end of one of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s vast network of tunnels, and a second is about to be purchased and installed at the other side, the document says.
Each device costs $27,500 to install, according to the document.
Couldn’t we just get a couple of those sensors that bodega’s use to ding when someone walks into the store? You would think they’d cost a lot less than $27,500.
