While many major Manhattan and Brooklyn restaurants have already made the completely unnoticable switch to a trans-fat free kitchen, New Yorkers are still leary about being told we can’t eat trans-fat. Not that we want to. But you know, just in case we change our mind we want the option to be there.
No one disputed the health risks of artificial trans fats, the chemically modified ingredients commonly found in fried foods, bread, doughnuts, salad dressings and other prepared foods, but most were ambivalent, if not upset, about the prospect of government intervention into their businesses, and their diets.
“I don’t want to be told what to eat.” And Robert S. Bookman, a lawyer for the New York State Restaurant Association, said city health officials might be treading on a legal landmine. “I would be shocked if some national company does not sue,” Mr. Bookman said.
Well hopefully if that happens, they’ll be able to find a judge with a set of balls that will tell the corporations to go fuck themselves. Although we’re sure the companies will come up with some interesting arguments as to why food that tastes exactly the same but DOESN’T cause heart disease is actually worse for you.
