A investigative report on NYC pharmacies reveaeled that prescription prices can vary wildly, sometimes by as much as 700%.
“An asthma inhaler will cost significantly more in one block than it will a few blocks away. There is no valid reason for that,” said council Speaker Christine Quinn (D-Man.) as the “Bitter Pill To Swallow” report was released.
“Cheaper medication can literally be right around the corner,” added Eric Gioia (D-Queens), chair of the council’s Investigations Committee.
“No New Yorker should be making a choice this evening whether to pay the rent, put food on the table or go out there and get prescription,” he fumed.
One pharmacy which was accused of price gouging justified it by saying that most of the patients have Medicaid and are not uninsured. Oh, well by all means then, continue to give them the shaft, you know since we’re the ones picking up the bill.
