It looks like the NYPD is prepared to protect Park Slope’s gentrification by any means necessary. Five NYPD cops have told the Daily News that they heard an NYPD captain give the order to “stop and frisk every black man” at the robbery plagued 7th Ave subway stop in Park Slope.
• “The captain said the descriptions of the [suspects] vary a lot, so we were to stop all black males at the station, stop and frisk them because ‘they have no reason being there,’” said one white officer who was outraged by the command.
• “All black men were to be stopped - no description other than that,” the white officer said. “So some 30- to 40-year-old man who had every right to be at the station - he’d get frisked too.”
• “Everybody was totally shocked,” said a black officer who was present. “It was very clear. Stop and question and frisk. But no description of who we were looking for - just male blacks,” he said.
The Daily News says the spoke to 5 of 12-15 officers that were present at the briefing and all 5 gave consistent accounts of what was said.
Commissioner Ray Kelly denies the allegations and says, “All indications are that there was some sort of misunderstanding as to what his directions were.”
Actually, that’s not really what “all indications” are. You and the guy who allegedly said it are the only ones denying it and you weren’t even there Commissioner Kelly.
