UPDATE: Plane was registered and piloted by NY Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle. CNN is reporting Joe Torre has “confirmed” that the plane was owned and registered to Lidle.

UPDATE: ABC has a reporter in a helicopter with live coverage. The only problem is that she doesn’t know that she’s being constantly broadcast. Best quote so far is, “Can you find out what the weather forecast is…I don’t want to end up like this plan.”

UPDATE: President Bush has been notified, reportedly searching for his copy of My Pet Goat.

UPDATE: Reported eyewitness says that it was indeed a plane and it definitely looked intentional. NORAD has aircraft scrambled over major cities in the US.

UPDATE: FDNY confirms two DOA.

UPDATE: FAA is reporting that it is in fact a fixed wing aircraft. Ok, CNN sucks. Now the FDNY is reporting that it was a helicopter. Something crashed into a building.

UPDATE: Gothamist is reporting that it may be a helicopter and not a small plane.

A helicopter or plane has crashed into a building on 72nd and York Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, causing explosions. There is fire on the ground and in the building. Fire Houses from all over NYC are responding.
