Tenants rallied outside Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village chanting “Where’s Mike?” So far Mayor Bloomberg has refused to weigh in on the sale of one of Manhattan’s largest affordable housing complexes.

About two-thirds of the 11,200 units are rent-stabilized.

Helen Collins, 85, was urging fellow residents to sign a pledge not to help an outside buyer force a conversion to condos.

“We came through the Great Depression,” Collins said. “Our husbands fought in World War II. Stuyvesant Town was built for veterans coming home. We understand how important an affordable home is to families.”

Residents, who banded together an investment group and made a bid on the 110-building complex, would like Bloomberg to help their cause. Bloomberg would no doubt have some influence because of the amount of business MetLife, the current owners of the building, do with the city.
