More than five years after 9/11 human remains are still being discovered at ground zero. The remains were discovered yesterday when a ConEd crew doing excavation of a manhole at street level.
Almost as shocking as the discovery was where they were found. The remains were found right next to where they set up the podium for 9/11 anniversary ceremonies.
Charles Wolf rushed to the unsettling scene - hoping that the remains of his 40-year-old wife, Katherine, had been found.
“We’ve got family members here who are aching inside because of this and they can’t believe that after all the promises that were made, we’re still finding things,” said Wolf, 52.
“We can no longer rely on accidental discoveries,” the group WTC Families for Proper Burial said in a statement. “This must be a deliberate search. May this awful news be the catalyst needed to go back and do the job well.”
The area where the remains were discovered was supposed to have already been thoroughly searched. The FDNY could offer no explanation as to why the remains were just now being uncovered.
