The NYPD is investigating the shooting of 15-year-old Luke Saintil by an NYPD sergeant early yesterday at an Upper East Side party. According to pretty much all accounts Saintil was not armed and had his back to the officer when the shooting took place.
The cops say that Saintil reached into his waistband like he was going to draw a gun then turned around which is why the cops drew their weapons. One cop fired a single shot when someone bumped his arm according to police sources.
Although the shootee disputes that claim saying, “No one was even near him, he was in the center of the room.”
Assemblyman Pete Grannis’ kid was one the 50 or so people that were at the apartment and claim there weren’t even any incidents to cause the police to show up. Many believing that the cops showed up to the wrong address.
The initial call that came in was for a fight with a gun. Witnesses said some officers were asking residents how to find 1809 First Ave., which is directly across the courtyard from the apartment where the teen was shot. Witnesses believe that cops went into the wrong address when they saw a lot of people going in and out of the building.
