The A train that last week rocketed through the tunnel with half its doors open was not defective according to the TA, indicating that the crew could be at fault.
After the incident the conductor told supervisors that the doors weren’t shutting so he got out to see what the problem was and the train just took off.
The motorman claims the door-indicator light was illuminated meaning all doors were closed.
“Everything on the train worked,” Transit Authority spokesman Charles Seaton said.
Theoretically, a train is not supposed to be able to move if any of the doors are open unless the motorman bypasses a safety valve by pressing a button in the main cabin.
