A mother of newborn twins was forced to throw the infants out of a window last night in order to save them from a fire raging in their building.
A 38-year-old mother threw her month-old twins from her second-floor apartment safely into a blanket held by neighbors on the street.
Neighbors then assisted a 4-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy to the ground as they jumped from the window.
According to neighbors the mother refused to jump and her 5-year-old daughter were rescued by firefighters who had to knock down her door with a sledgehammer. The mother is in critical condition and has been transferred to a trauma unit on Staten Island.
