The 51-member City Council gave itself a pay raise on Wednesday, increasing yearly compensation for its members to $112,500 from $90,000. Not bad for what amounts to a part-time gig.
Most of the members make a substantial amount of money at their “day jobs” including investment banking, law and real estate. However, Christine “Voice of the People” Quinn wasted no time justifying the enormous pay increase.
“Since the last elected official pay increase in 1999, the cost of living in New York has increased 25 percent,” Quinn said.
25 percent huh? Wow, that must really suck for people living below the poverty line and making minimum wage. But really, you guys are working so hard to keep bad people out of nightclubs and bars, you deserve the raise. No, really.
