Some 8,000 city employees of New York City need food stamps in order to get by while around 340 are actually on welfare. A shocking revelation that has Bloomberg vowing to do absolutely nothing.
“Well, if you want to sponsor higher taxes, we’ll have more money,” Bloomberg said. “There will be always some jobs that are entry level that don’t pay enough.”
A much different tune than the one Bloomberg struck when the City Council voted to give itself each a $22,500 raise. A raise which is about $400 more than some city worker’s salaries for the entire year.
Where is the money to cover those raises that Bloomberg said was well deserved?
Councilman Bill de Blasio said, “We should hold a standard in public life, that we like to see in private sector as well, of paying people a wage that their family can live on and eat on.”
Maybe he should have thought of that before voting to give himself a big fat raise while other city workers are being held in what amounts to wage slavery.
