Fidel Gonzalez, a Bronx man, accidentally shot his older brother, Jorge Gonzalez , in the head yesterday. The two brothers had been drinking pretty steadily throughout the evening on Christmas Eve.
The shooting was determined as an accident; Fidel intended to shoot his .357 Magnum out of the apartment window when he shot Jorge.
Jorge was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died.
The two brothers got along very well, so this news came as a shock to their friends.
“I don’t believe that he did that,” Roberto Colon, 55, a friend, said, referring to Fidel. “It’s got to be accidentally or something. He didn’t have that heart.”
Fidel Gonzalez was arrested and charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, the police said.
The apartment where the shooting took place was decorated for the holidays. During the afternoon, a man exited the apartment at took down the wreath that adorned the door alongside police tape.
