Further fueling the paranoia that every New Yorker holds onto so passionately, Bruce Ratner, the Atlantic Yards developer, installed 30 surveillance cameras outside the properties he owns within the 22-acre parameter of his $4 billion project.
Most of the cameras are placed outside buildings that are still occupied by tenants and are positioned so that they monitor the activities of people who currently live in buildings that Ratner wants to acquire through eminent domain.
As if someone just couldn’t stand outside of her front door and watch, Yvonne Clark said, “I definitely don’t like it because I don’t want people knowing who is coming and going from my apartment.” Why not, Yvonne? What’s going on in there?
Tenants are also pissed because, not only do they have to deal with the ever-present possibility of eviction, they now have to wonder why the hell he wants to watch what they are doing anyway.
