It never gets old hearing Paula Abdul deny that she is, was or will be drunk.
It’s kind of hard to believe her when footage of her being drunk as hell during an interview found its way onto YouTube. It also does not help that she cancelled all subsequent interviews.
Starpulse reported that her publicist had an explanation for the whole thing:
She subsequently abandoned media engagements scheduled for Friday. However, Abdul’s spokesman Jeff Ballard insists tiredness and a minor throat infection, not inebriation, were the causes of the cancellations and earlier odd behavior.
He says, “She was exhausted. This was at the end of three days of press (interviews and appearances), and she has had cameras following her around for a reality TV show too. She was sitting in a room with just a camera and a mic on, and the controllers dropped the sound twice, which is why she rolled her eyes. She never drinks. I have known Paula Abdul since she was 13, and I have never seen her drink ever in my life. And no, she is not on any kind of medication. She was a little tired.”
In 2005 Abdul revealed she suffers from a neurological disorder that causes chronic pain and requires a weekly injection of an anti-inflammatory drug.
He really knows how to mess with us. How are we supposed to make fun of her when he brings up brain issues? He is really making our job hard for us.

Her speech/mannerisms remind me a great deal of my Aunt in her first few years after her MS diagnosis. It got progressively worse and the pain medication prescribed got stronger before she succumbed. I would feel really bad if she is getting called a drunk- simply for trying to function with a serious underlying medical condition…

The part about her neurological disorder is true, someone extremely close to me works at her doctor’s office.
Someone who cares little about a patient’s privacy rights, obviously.

BobH - yeah, you are right, that was my bad for posting that. The blame for that belongs right here and not the person who works at the dr’s ofice. actually, I would like to ask to have that comment removed.

Yeah, the blame for posting it is yours, flashape. But the person who works in the Dr’s office should not have told it to you. They should have appropriate respect for patient’s privacy in the first place.

Does the anti-inflammatory drug get her hopped up? Or is she supplementing it with Vicodin? Let’s face it, plenty of people live and work with chronic pain, and they don’t act like that.
