Jared Paul Stern, the former freelance contributor for Page Six who was accused of demanding payment for favorable coverage, will not be charged by Federal prosecutors.
Stern was suspended last April when he allegedly blackmailed Ronald W. Burkle, a supermarket billionaire, for $100,000 payment followed by a $10,000 monthly stipend. Stern would then, Burkle claimed, keep any negative information about him out of Page Six.
Burkle further maintained that he filmed the entire interaction.
Stern’s lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, did not seem surprised when it became known that charges would not be filed because he said there was not enough evidence.
He noted, “what we’ve said from Day 1 is, this is a campaign to spread lies fueled by Burkle’s personal vendetta against The New York Post. There was never any evidence of wrongdoing on Mr. Stern’s part.”
Stern commented, “I’m relieved, obviously. I was not expecting to be charged, but it’s always good to have them come out and say it.”
He also said that, should The Post offer him his position back, he would, “consider it.”
