ltrain.jpg In an attempt to make humans obsolete, the Transit Authority will implement a $300 million upgrade to the Subway system that includes all driving duties being taken over by a Computer Based Train Control system.

Over the past year, high-tech trains have been tested out on the L Line. They were driven by motormen who took instructions from an elaborate computer system, which told them such things as when to go and stop.

Next, the trains will run themselves while the motormen monitor their actions.

This new system, much to the relief of people who live in Williamsburg and hate that the L never runs on weekends, will allow for more frequent train service.

Although last centuries tunnels and stations make instituting a new system based on 21st century technology difficult, the TA predicts that the trains will be up and running as soon as next year.
