New Yorkers love, love, love to call complaint hotlines. But, even the most indignant locals need to take a weekend off from time to time.
The hotline set up after last week’s school bus madness received only 142 calls this weekend versus the 13,000 made last Monday.
This might be due to the disappointing returns seen by complaining parents. Edward Shanahan’s 11-year-old, Eleanor, was 45 minutes late for class. After he called to complain, the city took away her bus route altogether and gave her a MetroCard.
Despite the fact that some people might think the hotline is making their problems worse, we think there is nothing to worry about. The hotline isn’t going out of business. The bus system is still messing up people’s lives. People have been simmering the past two days, waiting for Monday; they are itching to call up and let that operator have it.
