It didn’t seem possible, but the city that prides itself on exclusivity has one upped itself with the opening of Waverly Inn. They are so picky about their clientele that they don’t even have a phone number; not even a secret one.
They also think that it is ok to charge $55 for mac and cheese. Hell, I can make some sweet Kraft Mac and Cheese for like a dollar if anyone wants to come over. It’s not even that hard to get into my apartment AND I have a phone.
The editor for Vanity Fair, Graydon Carter’s, restaurant recently came under attack for these very reasons. Gerard Mehgher , who owns the 115-year- bar called Old Town Bar, was the attacker and his weapon was a pen and some paper.
He made a sign that he placed in his window calling Carter a “phony,” whose restaurant is for “poseurs” and “rear-end kissers.” He couldn’t even follow through with the insult, though, because he had to say it was tongue in cheek and he really didn’t mean it.
Carter got off easy and we don’t even know why an entire article is devoted to this weak attack. In any other city, this place would have been egged long ago. Now that’s something we want to read about.
Vanity Fair boss called ‘phony’ in downtown bar brawl
