Whenever we see “bishop” and “gay” in the same headline, we brace ourselves for another article about an angry, homophobic tirade shouted down from the pulpit. We were shocked to find, however, that the Bishop being discussed is actually doing something good.

The World Leaders of the Anglican Church have demanded that New York’s Episcopal Bishop, Marks Sisk, revise his opinion on gay unions and discontinue the consecration of gay bishops. If he doesn’t fundamentally change the way he thinks, he will cause irreparable damage to the church’s relationship with the international Anglican community.

The Episcopal Church has until September 30th to rethink its position. The Anglican Church seems to think this issue is urgent because, apparently, “gay consecrations and unions lead to ‘broken relationships.”

Sisk said, “I am not in the least prepared to make any concession that strikes at the heart of my conviction that gay and lesbian people are God’s beloved children.”

If Sisk sticks to his guns, we are more than ready to accept The Episcopalian Church with open arms when the Anglican Church abandons it. We may not be a very powerful Church, or even a church for that matter, but, at least, we have heart.
