Remember all those rats at the KFC/Taco Bell that forced the health department to permanantly close the restaurants doors? As a result, the parent company, Yum Brands Inc., closed 10 more of their fast-food establishments to await a passing grade on their inspection after 3 Pizza Huts owned by the same company were shut down.

It’s a simple attempt to save face. Emil Brolick, president of Yum’s brand building, said, “We will not compromise on our food and restaurant quality.”

After inspection, eight of those restaurants were reopened.

All in all, it really hasn’t been Taco Bell’s year. The rat incidence followed so closely on the heels of another debilitating blow. Dozens of people became sick after coming in contact with E. coli bacteria at Taco Bell, which was traced back to the company’s lettuce purveyors.

Rather than just shut down the infested restaurants so that another one with a different name could open up there with the same problem, the ADF said they are re-evaluating the city’s maintenance procedures.

Besides, it must be super disconcerting to walk down to your local KFC for some popcorn chicken only to find it boarded up due to rat infestation. It can really ruin your evening. Now what are you supposed to do for dinner?
