People are freaking out about the $267 million MegaMillions jackpot and they are all tapping into their inner Merlins. By this, I mean they’re all going to their “lucky” bodegas no matter how inconveniently located they are. It’s a very loose connection between lucky bodegas and Merlin, but don’t you think it kind of makes sense?
One woman, Doris Terry, traveled from Far Rockaway, Queens, to Manhattan.
Another handful of people know that Fishbein’s Smoke and Convenience in Queens is totally the place to buy lottery tickets because the store has had 5 winners in the past 20 years. But, if we are going to think about it in terms of magic and luck, doesn’t that mean they only produce one winner every four years? Obviously, no one is going to win because someone bought their winning $31 million ticket in August. And what does it mean that this person still hasn’t collected his or her prize. Couldn’t this be a cursed bodega? You could win, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to live to reap the benefits. Really, it’s kind of like a story straight out of Scary Stories.
Regardless, it’s wonderful how everyone is beginning to realize their central position in this universe and recognize how sharp their instinct is; we can thank large amounts of money for that.
All I have to say is, Good luck to you all. And, after all this madness is done, can you let me cut in front of you so I can quickly buy some water before you start rattling off 1,800 numbers.
