For some reason, we have unwittingly launched a campaign against eating at restaurants. It’s not that we don’t like going out to eat (I, for one, hate the taste of food that I cooked myself and would like to only eat away from home); it’s just that restaurants are making it too easy to be afraid of dying.
This time, Dominick Loizzo ordered the food equivalent to a cloud, oatmeal, at the Pump on East 21st and swallowed what he believes to either be a stick or a shard of spoon.
“When I would try to breathe, I would feel pain in my entire body,” he said.
Eventually, he was brought to the hospital and, now, Loizzo is suing the chain.
We know that Pump could’ve avoided a lawsuit. It’s so easy. I once served a woman a salad with a shard of glass in it and, after a few moments of mortification, I offered to buy her a beer. We were totally best friends after that. Maybe Pump should’ve offered to buy him a smoothie or something.
