Sometimes, it’s not a smart political move for Mayors to promise us endless summers or that they will give us butterfly kisses in the morning; it’s kind of like when a kid running for ASB president promises us longer lunches and shorter school days. We all get super stoked and vote for them as we imagine all the extra pot we are going to smoke.

Mayor Bloomberg, then, shouldn’t have claimed that he could end homelessness because he only succeeded in opening himself up to a world of criticisms, especially when the number of families on the street has increased. And what about all the homeless people who were fantasizing about all the beds they were going to sleep in?

Bloomberg assured us that he would decrease the amount of people seeking shelters to 7,400 by this time. He kind of failed considering the fact that the number of homeless people is 9,287.

Maybe, for starters, we should all stop filing for million dollar lawsuits against homeless people who have no choice but hang out, piss and drink in front of stores. That might make a difference.

  1. Eight in 10 New Yorkers say homelessness is a major problem both locally
and nationally, according to Public Agenda’s latest survey. More than
one third of those surveyed worry at least somewhat that they could become homeless
themselves. Affordable housing is New Yorkers’ top concern according to
the study, and 89 percent say that housing costs being “too high” is an
    important cause of homelessness.
