Maybe politicians are wising up to the fact that abstinence-only education isn’t really a good idea because, obviously, kids are going to do it no matter how many times you tell them they shouldn’t. It’s like telling a six year old about a wonderful section of heaven where people dance, eat marshmallows, watch cartoons and sing all the time, but then forbidding them from going. Come hell or high water, that six year old is going to do everything in her power to get there.
According to New York Times:
The city Health Department has awarded a $600,000 contract to Columbia University-Harlem Health Center to provide clinical and counseling services to teens and young women about sexually transmitted diseases, HIV and “pregnancy prevention” - including using the Plan B pill.
The money will go towards educating young people about the morning-after pill (Plan B); it will include a DVD, web site and posters and will benefit 3,000 people up to the age of 24. Health care professionals will even provide the emergency contraception.
And, of course, it is mandatory for the right to comment on how this country is slowly morphing into an immoral beast. State Conservative Party leader Mike Long said, “This smacks of a valueless society. The health commissioner [Dr. Thomas Frieden] is encouraging teens to be promiscuous and destroying human life.”
Obviously, he has never has never done “it.” Not many people need to be encouraged to have sex.
